WordPress now powers over 40% of all websites

I have been a WordPress Developer working with WordPress websites for over 12 years, and that has given me a huge insight into all aspects of the platform. Everything from hosting, themes, images, plugins, optimisation techniques, and maintenance has an impact on the final result.

WordPress is a hugely popular platform and has been for a number of years. What makes it so appealing is that it is open-source, meaning it is free to use. It has a huge following of developers that have created a huge community of themes and plugins, both free and paid. This also means the community for support is huge and makes it easy to find the answers to questions or problems you may have.

The WordPress platform really excels in its ability to make content updates very easy to perform with no development or tech experience. This makes it a great choice for people that want to control their content and make regular updates without having to rely on a developer. Having the ability to do this also keeps digital spending down and means you can focus your budget on more important things.

One very appealing aspect of WordPress is the e-commerce side of it which comes in the form of a plugin called WooCommerce. WooCommerce is also very popular and has some excellent extensions and payment gateways available to it. This is something that can be added at any time, meaning you can scale up to an online store if and when you need it.

There is a bit of a misconception that only small businesses use WordPress, so it may surprise you to hear even big brands like Sony, Renault, and Vogue have all used it. Although it is an excellent platform, WordPress is not suitable for all types of websites and can often be a hindrance if used in the wrong circumstances. It does have its limitations and on the other side, it can just be overkill for some smaller projects.

Steve has been brilliant. last year, I decided to “switch” my web developer due to being previously unsatisfied and Steve has restored my faith my in this particular kind of freelance trade. He’s patient and quick to respond to our questions, and supportive when there are any techincal issues. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him, and I look forward to getting our new website live and working with him well into the future.
