What is a Google Business Profile?

Google Business Profiles previously Google My Business or GMB as it is often referred to, is a tool that allows you to add your business information to Google search, including your business name, address, service area, opening hours, images, and any additional information you wish to add.

Do people use Google Business Profiles?

Google Business Profiles aren’t part of a directory, they are tied to Google Search results, so if someone searches for a hairdresser near them for example it will show what is called the ‘Google Map Pack’. This is a Google Map with a variety of businesses nearby that offer the service you searched for. So, in short, yes anyone who uses Google to search, in turn, uses Google Business Profiles to search for businesses.

How can I show at the top of the Google Map Pack?

This is where local SEO comes in and you can utilise a Google Business Profile audit. In a GMB audit, I will take your profile and if you haven’t already claimed it, I can do that on your behalf. You will still own it, I can just help to get you access to it. Then I will run through everything you need to do to get that listing to reach its full potential in the Google Map Pack.

Is local SEO important to my business?

This really depends on what your business does. If you are an eCommerce business that sells all over the world, then it may not be the best place to put your SEO budget. But if you have brick and mortar stores then you can boost your organic search presence massively with a Google Business Profile. The real benefit of a Google Business Profile is how visual the results are, they are more prominent than the ads people are paying for. So if you can get high up for local searches, you stand to drive a substantial amount of traffic to your site.

Do I need a website to use a Google Business Profile?

No, although there is an option to pass people on to your website for more information or bookings. If you don’t have a website, you can still utilise a Google Business Profile by using your phone number to get enquiries. This can often be the case for tradespeople, where they get all their trade through something like checkatrade and don’t see the need for a website. Unlike checkatrade, the phone number is your own and those customer leads and enquiries cost you nothing.

Can I optimise my Google Business Profile myself?

Yes, of course. You can certainly do things to improve your Google Business Profile listing. But I have experience in doing this across many different sectors and I know what is needed to get the traction required. It doesn’t end with the Google Business Profile, they are many other things you can do to extend your reach in organic search results.

How much does it cost to optimise my Google Business Profile?

This is subjective to how many profiles you have and what stage you are currently at with them. But unlike traditional SEO, local SEO is much more cost-effective and can produce results very quickly. It is not a replacement for traditional SEO but it compliments it very well. In terms of cost, I offer a local SEO audit for £275 + VAT and a Google Business Profile optimisation service from just £495 + VAT.

Can I leave my Google Business Profile unclaimed?

Yes, you can. But leaving it unclaimed opens it up to abuse. Google creates business listings without your input, so they will be there whether you create one or not. I have spoken to many companies that have had their unclaimed profiles changed to competitor addresses, websites, and phone numbers. This can be don’t through them suggest changes and you not being there to decline the changes on your businesses behalf.
